Dance Pointe Academy Code of Conduct

The Dance Pointe Academy Code of Conduct is designed to create a safe, respectful, positive and supportive environment in which all students can learn, develop and enjoy their dance experience. This Code of Conduct applies to all students, parents/guardians and carers and must be followed at all times.

RESPECT AND BEHAVIOUR

We expect all students to:

• Treat teachers, staff and fellow students with respect and kindness.

• Treat others as they would wish to be treated themselves.

• Attend classes with a positive attitude and try their best.

• Follow the instructions and guidance of their teacher.

• Ask for help when needed.

• Behave appropriately and respectfully within the school and at any events when representing the school

• Bullying, intimidation, discrimination, aggressive or disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated.

Parents/guardians and carers are also expected to demonstrate respectful behaviour towards teachers, staff, students and school facilities.

ATTENDANCE, UNIFORM AND SAFETY

Students are expected to:

• Arrive on time and be collected promptly at the end of class.

• Wear the correct uniform and appropriate footwear for their class.

• Keep hair neat, tidy and securely tied back.

• Keep jewellery to a minimum and remove it where necessary for safety.

• Wear appropriate, fitted dancewear that allows teachers to safely observe posture, alignment and technique.

• Bring only water into class. Water bottles should be clearly labelled.

DANCE CORRECTIONS AND PHYSICAL CONTACT

Dance is a physical discipline, and teachers may use appropriate physical contact to guide or correct a student's movement or technique.Dance is a physical discipline, and teachers may use appropriate physical contact to guide or correct a student's movement or technique.

Any physical contact will be professional, respectful, appropriate and the purpose of the correction will be made clear to the student and limited to what is necessary for the purpose of the teaching or correction.

Teachers will explain the reason for the contact and, wherever appropriate, seek the student’s consent before making physical contact.

Students’ individual boundaries, comfort and wishes will always be respected, and alternative methods of correction, such as verbal instruction or demonstration, will be used where appropriate.

Parents/guardians who have any questions or concerns regarding physical corrections should contact the School Director.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING

Parents/guardians should ensure that students arrive at class appropriately fuelled and have had sufficient food and fluids before participating in physical activity. This helps support energy levels, concentration and safe participation and may help reduce the risk of injury.

Parents/guardians must inform the School Director of any medical conditions, injuries, additional needs or learning difficulties that may affect their child's participation or wellbeing.

Students should inform their teacher if they are injured, experiencing pain or discomfort, or feel unwell during class.

EXAMINATIONS AND PRESENTATIONS

Dance Pointe Academy offers ISTD examinations, presentations and Class Awards to support students' development and celebrate their progress.

• Participation is at the discretion of the class teacher and School Director.

• Participation is encouraged but not compulsory.

• Students wishing to participate in examinations must attend any extra rehearsals in the lead up.

• Students must meet the school’s examination requirements to remain eligible for an examination.

• Further examination requirements will be provided when a student is invited to participate.

PERSONAL BELONGINGS

Students are responsible for their own personal belongings. Items are brought to the school at the owner's risk.

Dance Pointe Academy does not accept responsibility for lost, damaged or stolen property.

SAFETY AND PARTICIPATION

Dance involves physical activity, including warm-ups, stretching, conditioning and fitness exercises, and carries an inherent risk of injury.

Students must:

• Follow all teacher instructions.

• Participate safely and appropriately.

• Not attempt movements or exercises unless instructed to do so.

• Inform their teacher if they are unable to safely participate in an activity.

BREACH OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT

Poor, disruptive, unsafe or disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated.

Where a student or parent/guardian breaches the Code of Conduct or school Terms and Conditions, the School Director reserves the right to take appropriate action, including asking the student to leave the school. In such circumstances, fees will not be refunded.

Any concerns, queries or complaints should be directed to the School Director in the first instance.
